The Tasmanian Liberal Government is getting on with the job of helping Tasmanians to rebuild and recover from COVID-19.

Now is not the time for Labor’s continual petty politics but they seem to be relishing in the opportunity to take counter-productive pot shots.

For several months, we have been closely examining and developing measures to prevent Tasmanians from paying too much at the petrol bowser.

Today we announced our plans for a website and free app that will allow Tasmanians access to real time mandatory fuel price reporting to put downward pressure on fuel prices.

Recently, global oil prices have come down significantly and this was reflected quickly on the mainland in States with similar reporting, with major fuel price reductions.

For Labor to try and suggest we are following their lead on this issue is pitiful.

In fact, just two weeks ago, Labor was publicly championing “weekly publication of petrol prices by legislation.”

We will deliver immediate, real-time pricing which is mandatory for all retailers, not Labor’s third-rate weekly price updates.

The Government is committed to action that helps Tasmanians during these challenging times and calls on Labor to be constructive rather than continuously trying to take undue credit for the sake of lazy political point scoring.
