Footage seen by the Mirror Online shows two women standing near the edge of the water in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China, when the woman wearing an orange jumper bends down to tie her shoelace.
As she does so, the other women appear to forcefully push her into the water from behind.
Both women are seen falling into the reservoir in the incident which happened on Wednesday.
Police confirmed that the pair of them drowned, Yahoo News reports.
CCTV of the shocking incident has gone viral in China with an investigation launched on Thursday.
